Zooming in on Location
With the European summer waning and the Nicaraguan winter in full swing, Casa Tortuga is finally closing in on its long awaited location. After originally focussing the search exclusively on the south pacific coast of the country, the island of Ometepe presented itself as a real alternative and after reappraising all the factors we are now 110% convinced that all of Casa Tortuga´s ambitions will be best realized on this unique volcanic paradise.

As we have grown to know the island better over the past 3 months we have found our focus shifting again slightly from the lakefront properties to the more elevated areas on the slopes of the dormant Maderas volcano. Its virgin cloud forest and pristine crater lagoon have revealed themselves to be the true diamond on offer on Ometepe. As such we now find ourselves focussing on a well defined area along the north-eastern slopes of the Maderas volcano. Key features of this area include a proximity to the jungle and truly spectacular views onto the lake and both volcanoes.

At the time of writing we are in discussion with five separate parties regarding five different properties in this same area and are now feeling more confident that ever that a deal will soon be done. Two out of the five parties are large farming cooperatives who own large tracts of land and are willing to subdivide and sell while the other three parties are private land owners with smaller tracts. Experience has taught us that there is always a longer process involved when dealing with cooperatives so there are still hurdles to be overcome. Crucially however, we feel we have now finally identified in exactly which area the Turtle will build its home. With this new clarity our desire to begin construction is now a burning fever.
