Preparing for Volunteers

As the road winds its steady path up the mountain, Totoco is making final preparations for receiving the first volunteers in the coming weeks and months. Significantly, a highly qualified young women with years of experience on Ometepe will be joining us in mid-March to help prepare a nursery manual which will be an integral part of training a local woman for the long-term management of this important element in the project.

The communal kitchen, compost toilet and shower are all very near completion and a big effort will be made this week to have those in proper working order. A large supply of ornamental bamboo was delivered on Friday and will be used for this purpose as well as many others. Please look to the pictures section for a visual glimpse.

Also, we would like to give a mention to Pieter and Hielke (a fellow investor) who visited us for a couple of days last week. It was excellent having the opportunity to show them the project. Pieter braved the difficult public part of the road to help assure us that the steep sections of our private road are indeed manageable for a modest 2-wheel drive vehicle!
