This week we commenced working with the new English speaking lawyer at Garcia & Bodan. Already, Rene Stokman has been in contact with them to determine the most effective method of securing our claim on the property. Not surprisingly, proceeding with the actual sale will provide Casa Tortuga with the greatest security but it was also said that there is certainly no reason why we can or should not proceed with the signing of a promise to sell, in the meantime.
To give us even greater incentive to finalize these legal matters, it has now been decided to halt all pre-construction and construction activity until we have managed to secure, at the very least, the price and location in a promise to sell contract. We will still, however, be continuing to apply the finishing touches to the road that leads to the property and also to bring across to the island the circa 1500 plants and trees and get them into the ground.

With all this said, it is still true that the long-awaited ‘authorization to sell’ document from the Ministry of Labor could be issued any day. On Tuesday 26th June, the President of the Cooperative, Martijn and our Rivas lawyer will be attending a meeting at the Ministry of Labor in Managua to discuss the issue. We have been informed by our new lawyers who have spoken to the Ministry, that on 99.9% of occasions the ‘Authorization to Sell’ is issued but it is just a matter of time waiting for its release. Fingers are (again) crossed that Tuesday will be the day.
