Cabin # 1
We are pleased to report that the construction of the first Cabin commenced on the 14th April – in-line with the construction Schedule! All foundation trenches are complete and yesterday we began connecting the metal rebar to the foundation pillars.
Due to the fact that the wet season is just around the corner the need for a dry storage area on the top platform is becoming imperative. To meet this need, management has slightly revised plans and decided to make this first cabin into Cabin # 9 (i.e. the last cabin to open). With this said, we will continue construction of this cabin up until the stage that it has all foundation pillars in place, foundation completed and roof attached. It will then serve as the perfect location to store all materials on the top platform for the reasons that it is;
1) the nearest cabin to the top platform roundabout – making it easy to deliver materials to and
2) it is located behind what will now become Cabin #s 1 & 2 so that when we open in October, guests will not need to look upon an ugly storage area but rather will have unobstructed views to the lake and volcano.
Martijn’s house is now in its 5th week of construction and is coming along nicely. All retention walls have been completed and a number of side walls are in place. Within the next week, work on the adobe walls will commence. This structure is on track for a 2nd June finish.
Architectural designs on the restaurant and bar are now being finalized and agreed with our lead builders. As has always been the case, we are looking to construct a basic post and beam structure that will be differentiated by how we define interior spaces using natural materials. We are on track to start excavation on the 29th April 2008.
Q1 Accounting is being finalized by our accountant as you read this. Our accountant has been briefed on new reporting templates that will include our budget estimates and which, in general, are far more comprehensive and thorough.
