More Water

Moving into the second week of June we are still over a week away from completing the first full month of the wet season and already over 30cms of water has fallen (the annual average for the island is 150cms). We have already witnessed the otherwise dry streambeds on the property running stronger than at any point during all of last winter.

Progress continues at a good pace none-the-less and basic work on cabin #9 (which will serve as our temporary storage building at the top) will be completed in the next few days. Also, cementing has started on the main lodge construction where excavation of the various levels is still underway. This past Friday we took delivery of 26 eucalypt trees, many of which will be used in the construction of the main lodge.

Elsewhere on the property, next to Martijn's cottage, our first small ferrocement storage tank is under construction and will be completed by tomorrow. It has a capacity of 5000 liters which amounts to half of the required potable water storage for the bottom section. Tyler Pratt (our temporary consultant on all things to do with water) is supervising the project and Harbin- at the far right of the picture (a mason who has been with us for over a year and a half) is learning the finer details of ferrocement construction.
