Details

For the past week we have had a team of 8 men staying with us from the town of La Palma, on the far side of our volcano. Led by Don Hipolito they have been thatching the leaves onto the roof of cabin #1 and will be finishing the job later today. With the majority of the remainig cabins designed for a similar roof we will be seeing more of them over the coming months.

As mentioned in a previous BLOG, this is a
roofing technique apparently unique to Ometepe and we are very happy with how the first one is turning out. With the roof on it allows us to start working on the details of cabin #1 which will be another important challenge as few of the builders will have had much experience with the level of quality we are demanding. Slate finishing will be applied on walls and floors in various areas and this is something the masons are already becoming quite adept at.

The team on cabin #2 has started laying bricks after the floating floor was poured last week and we expect to have the team from La Palma back again in a few weeks to thatch our second cabin.

Finally I wanted to include a picture of the front gate of the property which I believe you havn´t seen yet. We are still thinking about what to put on top of the two rock pillars but we are happy with the way our logo stands out.
