Winter Weather

While Europe may be enjoying its brief spell of warm and sometimes sunny conditions, the Nicaraguan winter continues to be a wet one. This past weekend brought another very heavy storm that lasted three hours on Saturday morning and had the streams and ponds on Totoco's property overflowing. Our rainwater diversion drains and ditches are working well but stillshowed how more work can be done to control the water during the heaviest storms of the season.

The bottom section of the property suffers more than the top and there was no damage reported at any of the construction sites. The rains are leaving the unfinished roundabout looking like a mud-pool though and so later this week a team will start to excavate and lay rocks and gravel there.

We have been lucky so far in that the rains are falling outside of the hours of our working day and so the weather is not causing signficant delays. Leonide is on schedule with cabin#1 where his team is filling in the foundation and preparing to work on the pillars.

Foundations are also being filled in the numerous levels of the main lodge construction. This is down with a mix of stones and gravel that then permits the placing of tiles over a final sand layer. Elsewhere at the top Anielka has been busy planting the raised paths with thick grasses that will allow people to get around without getting their feet too muddy when it rains.
