Shopping for Style

As you will have read last week we are finally nearing the completion of our first cabin. As the masons are working on the fine plaster coating on the inside, Roslyn & Jonathan will be traveling to the mainland this week in order to purchase everything needed to turn cabin #1 into a quality finished product. A skilled carpenter from the far side of the island has been contracted and is working on the doors and windows, paint for the interior and exterior needs to be picked out, artwork for the walls is required, special acid-wash interior flooring must be selected, door-knobs chosen, etc. I believe the list extends to three pages.

Cabin #2 is some weeks behind #1 but Jonathan & Roslyn will take advantage of the trip and try to get the necessary items for that cabin also. Equally, the main lodge needs to be thought of and so a part of the shopping list includes furnishings and fittings for the restaurant, bar, lounge, reception and kitchen. As I said, it's a long list. Its been encouraging to see the beautifull eucalypt pillars being placed in the lounge and bar area.

Other projects currently underway are two important elements of water management, namely the large 44000 liter storage tank for potable water as well as the restaurant kitchen greywater filtration system. The base of the storage tank has been laid and work continues preparing the metal grid for the walls. The greywater filter will act as an ornamental feature as it is permanently saturated and will allow for a luscious planting of water-loving flowers. The filter is no more than a long trench lined with thick plastic and filled with gravel and will appear as part of the landscape when complete.
