Winter has come

Officially one day late, the rain has come today and the Nicaraguan winter is upon us! As I write this I am feeling slightly chilly (!?!) and there is a light rain falling that has virtually not let up since about 6am this morning. It feels good to smell the land receiving it's first shower and when the rain is light as it has been today there is no impact on construction. Nice.
The winter does bring challenges with it and storage is a main concern. The first cabin being built will be used as a storage facility as you know and the roofing for both that structure and the remainder of Martijn's cottage is arriving today. Roofing on that first cabin on the top platform will go up early next week.
The rain also means that the planting plan which has been prepared can be put into effect and most importantly this includes extending the wind barrier on the eastern fenceline in order to protect the bar&restaurant come October. Thick plantings of a type of grass cane as well as dense planting of bananas will do most of the work this year while trees and bamboos grow taller. The nursery is looking healthy and a second satelite nursery has been started at the top of the land which will focus on the ornamentals necessary for creating the paradise feel be want to offer our guests.
