It has been an exciting week. Firstly on Tuesday 26th June there was a meeting at the Ministry of Labor in relation to the attainment of the ‘Authorization to Sell’ document. The meeting was attended by our Rivas lawyer, both the President and Vice-President of the Cooperative and a number of high ranking officials from the ministry including their second in-charge. The meeting was successful and again it was confirmed that the document would be issued and there are no foreseeable problems relating to the deal. The cooperative were deemed the official owners of the land but needed to register one more official document. This outstanding task was completed on Friday last week and we are now (im)patiently waiting for the issue of the ‘authorization’ which has been scheduled for the end of this week (6th July).
Also, this week we finalized Q1 expense reporting. This has now been sent to the Supervisory Board for comment. Furthermore, we have agreed to update our actual expenses each month and send the spreadsheet to the Supervisory Board on an ongoing quarterly basis for 2007 and a monthly basis for 2008. This will ensure that we keep track of what money we have and what has been spent.
As mentioned last week, while everything seems to be coming to a close in relation to the ‘authorization to sell’ document, history has shown us that we cannot rely on the timings given by the Ministry, as such, we are proceeding with the Promesa de Venta and will be signing this towards the end of this week. As mentioned previously, the Promesa de Venta will provide us with security in relation to the sale including the price.
Also this week marked the arrival of circa 1500 plants and trees from the mainland. Due to his two colleagues being struck down by a virus, Martijn completed the journey with Chris Shanks. We are now in the process of organizing the nursery, labeling the plants, developing a planting plan and actually putting the plants in the ground. Let me tell you, this is no easy task!! We will post some pictures soon on the subject. For now, enjoy the one below of one of our workers cleaning the big tree that covers the Nursery. It is a long way down!
