Weekly Update - July 22nd
This past week saw Nicaragua celebrate its 28th Dia de la Revolucion which is the local Bastille day and comemorates the final victory of the Sandinistas over the ruling Somoza dictatorship and its hardline National Guard back in 1979.
Here on the island the celebrations took place yesterday and Totoco Eco-Lodge was very visibly involved in the organizing and funding of the festivities (pictures to follow in the coming week). We contributed an 80kg pig as well as rice and vegetables in order to feed around 300 children. The local town council sat us down with the vice mayor as honoured guests and the same vice-mayor spoke in glowing terms of Totoco Eco-Lodge coming to Balgüe. Besides a heavy 20min thunderstorm in the afternoon the party was a big success and was an excellent opportunity for Totoco to profile itself within the local community.
Work on the property is still largely focussed on landscape design, road works and planting of trees and ornamentals. Specifically we are working to consolidate all the efforts that have been made around the entrance of the property and the nursery where we are coming close to finishing off the details.
NOTE: You will find another update on the Madroñal Water Project in the Totoco Projects section of this Blog.
